Dodges, the way we work on them
Batteries, brakes, starters, alternators and check engine lights, all at the car.
A few Dodge habits are worth knowing, starting with where the battery lives.
Dodge issues worth knowing
The battery's in the trunk
On the Charger and Challenger, the battery sits in the trunk, under the floor, with jump-start posts under the hood. Battery replacement is still $125 labor.
No-start on 2011–2013 Durangos
A fuel pump relay inside the TIPM power module on some 2011–2013 Durangos could cause a no-start, and Chrysler recalled them. If yours cranks but won't fire, a recall check is one of our first steps.
Pentastar oil filter housing
The 3.6 Pentastar V6 in the Charger, Durango, Journey and Grand Caravan uses a plastic oil filter housing in the engine valley that commonly leaks oil, coolant or both.
HEMI tick
On 5.7 HEMI Chargers, Challengers and Durangos, a tick that stays after warm-up deserves a diagnosis: it can be a failing lifter or a broken exhaust manifold bolt.
Brand guides, not a diagnosis. Two cars with the same symptom can have different faults, which is what testing is for.

Questions
Dodge owners ask
Can you replace a Charger battery in a parking garage?
Yes. It's in the trunk, which makes it one of the easier garage jobs.
My Durango cranks but won't start. What should I check?
Check for open recalls on the VIN, then have fuel and ignition tested. We do the testing at the car.
Will using you void my Dodge warranty?
No. Under the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a manufacturer or dealer can't deny your warranty coverage just because maintenance or repairs were done by an independent mechanic. Keep your receipts. Repairs the warranty itself pays for still go to the dealer.
