Fords, the way we work on them
Most of what goes wrong on a Ford can be sorted at your place: no-starts, batteries, brakes, charging problems and check engine lights.
Newer Fords lean on software too. A battery swap may need the battery management system reset, and many newer models have electronic parking brakes. We handle that side as well.
Ford issues worth knowing
New battery, features switched off
Many newer Fords, including the F-150, use a battery management system that should be reset after a new battery. If it isn't, the system needs about eight hours of sleep to relearn, and features like heated seats, the rear defrost or the audio can stay disabled until then.
Cold-start rattle on the 3.5 EcoBoost
On F-150s and Expeditions with the 3.5-litre EcoBoost, a loud rattle for a few seconds on a cold start is a well-known sign of worn cam phasers. Cam timing codes like P0016 or P0017 often come with it.
Water pump on the 3.5 V6
On the non-turbo 3.5-litre V6 in the Explorer, Edge, Flex and Taurus, the water pump sits inside the front of the engine. When it starts to fail it can weep coolant, and in bad cases leak coolant into the oil. Catch it early.
Rear brakes on newer models
Plenty of newer Fords have an electronic parking brake, so the rear calipers need service mode before the pads come out. We do it every time.
Brand guides, not a diagnosis. Two cars with the same symptom can have different faults, which is what testing is for.

Questions
Ford owners ask
Do you reset the battery management system on Fords?
Yes, on Fords that have it. It's part of the $125 battery labor.
My F-150 rattles for a few seconds on cold starts. Should I worry?
It's a well-known sign of worn cam phasers on the 3.5 EcoBoost. Have it diagnosed rather than living with it.
Will using you void my Ford warranty?
No. Under the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a manufacturer or dealer can't deny your warranty coverage just because maintenance or repairs were done by an independent mechanic. Keep your receipts. Repairs the warranty itself pays for still go to the dealer.
