Nissans, the way we work on them
Batteries, brakes, starters, alternators and diagnostics at the car.
Nissan's CVT automatic is the part with the most history, so that's where we start.
Nissan issues worth knowing
CVT transmission trouble
Nissan's CVT automatic has a long record of complaints across 2010s models including the Altima, Rogue, Sentra, Pathfinder, Murano and Maxima. Nissan settled a class action on the 2015–2018 Murano and 2016–2018 Maxima by extending transmission coverage to 7 years or 84,000 miles.
The "strawberry milkshake" radiator
On 2005–2010 Frontiers, Xterras and Pathfinders with an automatic, a crack inside the radiator's built-in transmission cooler can mix coolant into the transmission fluid. Shudder or slipping is often the first sign.
Push-button no-starts
When a push-button Nissan won't start and the dash says the key isn't detected, a weak fob battery or a weak car battery is the usual first suspect.
Brand guides, not a diagnosis. Two cars with the same symptom can have different faults, which is what testing is for.

Questions
Nissan owners ask
My Altima's CVT shudders. Can you fix it at my house?
We can diagnose it at your house and tell you what it needs. Transmission rebuilds are a bigger job, and we'll be upfront about that.
Is a used Rogue a safe buy?
It can be. Get it inspected, with a close look at how the CVT drives and what the scan shows.
Will using you void my Nissan warranty?
No. Under the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a manufacturer or dealer can't deny your warranty coverage just because maintenance or repairs were done by an independent mechanic. Keep your receipts. Repairs the warranty itself pays for still go to the dealer.
