Toyota issues worth knowing
Oil burning on the 2AZ four-cylinder
Toyota's 2AZ-FE four-cylinder in 2007–2011 Camrys and some RAV4s, Corollas and Scions was known for burning oil because of piston rings. Toyota's coverage program has ended, so check oil use before you buy one.
Oil leaks on the 3.5 V6
On Toyota's 3.5-litre V6 (2GR-FE), the rubber section of the VVT-i oil line can spring a leak, and Toyota ran a service campaign to replace it with an all-metal line. The timing cover seal is another common leak spot.
Hybrid 12-volt batteries
A Prius has a small 12-volt battery that powers the computers, smart key and park lock. On 2004–2015 models it lives in the back, with a jump terminal under the hood. When it's weak, the car may not reach Ready.

Do you replace the 12-volt battery on a Prius?
Yes. It's the battery that runs the car's computers and locks, and it's $125 labor like any other battery.
Is an older Camry worth inspecting before I buy?
Yes. We check for oil burning on the four-cylinder and oil leaks on the V6, plus brakes, tires and a full scan.
Will using you void my Toyota warranty?
No. Under the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a manufacturer or dealer can't deny your warranty coverage just because maintenance or repairs were done by an independent mechanic. Keep your receipts. Repairs the warranty itself pays for still go to the dealer.
